Enjoying a week on the south coast of England

Wednesday 25.09.2019
Well, it’s rained a lot last night, but not before the students had returned from Brighton, where they had much better weather, even some sunshine. 🙂  Today is another damp start but it should improve in time for the afternoon activity, which is a trip to Beachy Head and Eastbourne. The cliffs at Beachy Head are world famous and are the highest on the south coast of England. They provide a wonderful panorama of the English Channel and the surrounding countryside of East Sussex. We’ll explore the top together, then walk down the gentle path to the town of Eastbourne, a very genteel seaside resort with a lovely long stretch of promenade.
The group will walk past the imposing Grand Hotel, the Wish Tower, Bandstand and then the pier before heading into the town centre, with it’s pedestrian zone and the recently refurbished Beacon Centre.

What an awful start to the day out there, as rain is lashing down. HOWEVER, one of the advantages of living on a windy island is that the weather changes very quickly. And so it should prove today, as the forecast is for the rain to move away and for this afternoon to be much sunnier. We’d be very grateful of this, as it will make for a much more pleasant trip to the seaside for the group as they head west to the city of Brighton.
Regency architecture and the promenade make this city quite special, but it’s the atmosphere that makes it even more delightful. Brighton feels like a buzzy, happening place, and there is so much to see and do that you’d need a week to see it all. Our group will take in the main sights before exploring the nooks and crannies of the Lanes which attract so many visitors every year.

School begins today, and we are awaiting the arrival of the school buses before our English teachers Chloe, Melanie and Richard begin their lessons. We hope to have some motivated students, ready to work hard on their spoken English as well as being creative in class. We know they are of a very good level of English, so we will try to push them hard this week .:-)
After lunch, we are heading to Seaford, for a relaxing afternoon and where the group will undertake the Seaford Discovery Tour, which involves answering questions and navigating the town, learning some of the history of Seaford and of England in general, as well as trying to gain bonus points by asking local people to do some weird and wonderful tasks. 🙂
If you’d like to check out the weather here, the best place is the met office, which you can see here.

Sunday 22.09.2019 A big day for everybody as they visit the capital today, to see the sights and sounds of London . They are catching the train to Victoria Station before taking in the sights of Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Big Ben, Parliament, Downing Street and Buckingham Palace. Then some free time to explore other parts of this busy city.
It’s a lovely sunny start to the day, and this should continue all day. With temperatures around 16 degrees, it’s set to be a fantastic day.

Arrival day for our group and staff from BRG 18, Vienna. They had an excellent flight too and they were in England to bright sunshine. After collecting their luggage, they were soon on their way to Seaford, where they were met by the H2 Team and their host families who were taking their own home for some dinner.
